My blue screening problem

The PSN 5V rail is mostly under the 5V rating. Do you think it might be the PSU thats causing the problem????

Have taken the card out and now it's booting at least. It's a 500w PSU and the cards only a GT250 so it should be ok. It's rather old now though and a 24/7 runner for a few years.

Had another blue screen and now taken every plug out I don't need ie, DVD and floppy disk. Running ok now.

Try a memtest to rule that out anything wrong with the RAM. I've had PSUs that have had rails below the voltage they should be without any problems. Unless it's a lot lower then I can't see it being that. Also check the HDD hasn't got any bad sectors, if the OS is trying to read a critical file like the paging file and it can't then funny things happen.

Ram is about a month old and the HDD is a brand new one. Will have a test though. Thanks

I've had RAM that's been bad from the beginning - you might have just been unlucky.

If you prevent the PC rebooting on BSOD you can get the error code which might point towards the problem. I can't remember off the top of my head how to stop it rebooting but a quick search on the net should say.

Ram came back as fine. Also tried putting the ram I took out back in and it blue screen again. At least it rules that out.

Could be a bad OS install. What is the BSOD error? Right click My Computer -> Properties -> Advanced -> Startup and Recovery -> Uncheck 'Automatically Restart' to see the error. I have a feeling it might be the IRQ_MORE_OR_LESS_EQUAL error, or it could be a ati*.sys issue.

Will have a look when I get home as I'm in London till tomorrow. This ones not an ATI one it's a Nvidia one. Plus I put in a new HDD and went from XP to windows 7. So the HDD different as is the OS and the memory. I'm having a new GPU bibby to put it a box so it will have 2 GPU's, I have to get a 1000w psu next week so when I do I will take the 500w PSU and put it in the BSOD box and see what happens. I did try upping the V-core as I'm wondering if the CPU might have degraded but that didn't work either. Was only an option to up it by .15 though.

1000W?? I have a 280W GTX 280 with a 85W proc in a 550W machine, and 300W of GPU + 65W proc in a 500W. Prices of PSUs are astronomical imo

What processor? 1000W is a very safe option - the 5850 and 4850X2 together is about 500W - you could go for this one that I use:

HiPower 800W Modular
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/135196
£68.50

or there is a non-modular one for just under £60 (I actually have the non modular one, with 375W ofoverclocked gfx and about 170W overclocked processor).

It's not a typical high brand name, but I've had no problems with mine.

It's the i7 box. Thank for the link.

Will have a swap of the PSU when I get the new one for a test in the BSOD box. At least it will rule that out.

Well, I have swapped the PSU that blew andput in the one from the BSOD machine. It's working fine in there. So, we have changed the memory, the HDD and installed both XP and Windows 7 on there. The PSU works fine in another machine. Changed the cables too.
